Christopher W. Lapp, MBA, Ph.D.

Dr. Christopher W. Lapp's background includes utility, government and academic experience in the areas of nuclear, alternative energy and environmental analysis.  Dr. Lapp has a Ph.D. from MIT in nuclear science and engineering, an MBA (Virginia Tech) in information technology, a Masters and Bachelors from Georgia Tech and a post-doctorate degree from the University of Florida in environmental and energy policy analysis.  Dr. Lapp has worked on the design and construction of modular nuclear power plants and is internationally published in this area.  Dr. Lapp also performed studies with Prof. H.T. Odum (founder of Systems Ecology) on the net energy, economic and environmental analysis of various energy resources.  This work included the analysis of projects to reduce carbon emissions and create sustainable economic projects.

Dr. Lapp has also consulted to private industry and government on nuclear energy matters related to safety, regulation and licensing.  During his tenure in the utility industry, Dr. Lapp received his commercial Senior Reactor Operator License on a billion-watt power plant from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  This gives Dr. Lapp a unique combination of theoretical and practical knowledge.  Early in his career, Dr. Lapp assisted his father (one of pioneers in nuclear physics), Dr. R. E. Lapp (1917-2004) in researching material for several of his books including, “The Radiation Controversy,” (1979) and “America’s Energy,” (1976).

Most recently, Dr. Lapp performed a feasibility study for the use of small modular reactors to be used in remote locations (Alaska and other countries) for industrial, mining, residential purposes and for the development of biomass fuels.  Dr. Lapp is currently involved with next generation nuclear plants, tidal energy development and the use of biomass for transportation fuels.  During the summer of 2005, Dr. Lapp became the first person to cross America on a Coast-to-Coast journey using only Ethanol E-85 in a converted 1957 Cadillac.  Currently Dr. Lapp is consulting to the National Park Service to aid in building the National Park Service Museum in West Virginia to be the greenest and most energy efficient government project to date.  Dr. Lapp has been in the print media, local news, national and international news and has been interviewed for energy documentaries (Discovery Science channel, etc.).  Dr. Lapp currently runs his own energy and environmental company, Lapp Consulting Services, LLC in Washington, D.C.
